How to coordinate outfits for family photos
For timeless, natural, and heartfelt imagery in our all-white studio.
One of the biggest questions that I get in the studio is "what should we wear? It's natural instinct to go out and select all matchy-matchy but actually, it's better that you don't! Here's how to choose...
1. Choose Soft Neutrals
Colours such as whites, creams, beiges and light greys all photograph beautifully and complement our natural, minimal style. They help keep the focus on your connection, not your clothing.
2. Avoid Strong Patterns and Logos
Stick to solid colours or subtle textures. Patterns and logos can feel too bold and distract from the emotion, beauty and connection in the image...we want the focus to be on you!
3. Coordinate, Don’t Match
Pick a colour palette and mix pieces within it. This creates harmony while still letting each person express their own style.
4.Embrace Layers and Texture
Knit cardigans, linen shirts or soft wraps can add depth without overpowering the image and look incredible. Layers help create softness and warmth (of course, leave out the knits if it's a hot summer day!).
5. Prioritise Comfort (Especially for Little Ones)
Choose breathable, soft fabrics that your child feels good in. Avoid anything too tight, itchy or fussy. Happy kids make for happy photos!
6. Plan Ahead
Lay outfits out in advance. Snap a photo of everything together to make sure it looks balanced and soft. Remember to iron before you arrive!
7. We're Here to Help
Bring a couple of options if you’re unsure! I can help you choose what looks best in our space.
Final tip
Remember...simplicity is key. Your love, connection and laughter are the most beautiful part of the session. Let your outfits support the story, not steal the spotlight.
See you at your session! x
